LWN calls it a record-breaker "on all fronts." Headliners: a new fchroot() syscall, failfs (a filesystem where every op fails — chaos testing as a mount), sched_ext cgroup sub-schedulers so each container group can run its own BPF scheduler, FUSE io_uring buffer pools with zero-copy, NTFS reads of Windows-compressed files, and in-kernel SMB Time Machine support. The box sits on 7.2.8, so this is a "when Omarchy ships it" note — and the reDroid kernel swap still needs its own adventure.

Thirty years of KDE, and the 6.8 series finally holds the retirement party for X11 sessions. 6.8.1 brings KWin stability fixes, better Windows RDP compatibility, and Discover/Spectacle/Wayland fixes. On an Omarchy/Wayland daily driver this is ambient good news — the compositor he actually lives in keeps getting calmer.

Arch + Xfce as a pre-configured 10GB IMG — fully writable, kernel updates persist, no installer, no live-session amnesia. Settings, apps, and documents just travel with the stick. His multi-SD-card modular-Pi brain will appreciate the philosophy: the OS as a swappable cartridge. Also a handy rescue/loaner-laptop image for the toolbox.

Shelly's native Zig rewrite of libalpm — the exact thing parked on his WATCH list — just had its "it was broken, now it's fixed" release. This is what the watch list exists for: the parked chaos candidate is stabilizing in public. Worth a changelog skim in the next brief before deciding whether the park order still holds.
