The open-weight week keeps escalating — and the most interesting model is the one that isn't out yet.
Nanbeige (linked to recruitment platform BOSS Zhipin's parent) dropped a dense 33B model on Hugging Face October 24, updated October 25, under Apache 2.0, with a 524,288-token context window. Vendor-reported scores: Terminal-Bench 2.1, 80.9 vs Qwen3.8-27B's 73.0; DeepSWE, 65.5 vs 42.5 — but it trails on SWE-Bench Pro, 60.3 vs 61.7. Weights are ~66 GB in BF16, and the official examples use 4-GPU tensor parallelism.
Take: the scores are vendor-reported and unreplicated, so treat them as a dare, not a verdict. The real story is the plan: this 33B is a teacher, and the distill target is a 3B agent model. That's the one that would actually live on your rig.
↳ Callout — Local LLM stacks paired with Jev + Qwen3.8 challenger: WATCH, don't swap. The 3.6 pair stays the daily driver; if the promised Nanbeige4.3-3B lands, bench it against Kev-4B's decision lane first — a 3B agent model is the only size in this story that fits a single A770 comfortably.

Moonshot unveiled K3.1 Pro October 23: a 3-trillion-parameter-class MoE, 1M-token context, API at $2/$10 per million tokens, and full weights promised by November 4. It scores 65.7% on Terminal-Bench 4.0 against Claude Opus 5.5's 66.4 and GPT-6 Astra's 58.2. A Highspeed variant runs 2–3× faster. Separately, Moonshot says it stripped cyber-related data from mid-training and RL, dropping its own exploit benchmark from 90.5 to 81.0 — the first open-weight lab to publicly cap a capability rather than ship it.
Take: a frontier-class open model that admits what it removed is a genuinely new kind of release note. Also: 3T parameters is not a home-lab model, it's a weather event. Admire from the API.
↳ Callout — Local LLM stacks (evaluate-first rule): TRY VIA API, not download. Per your own rule — evaluate on the free/hosted endpoint first, download open weights only where they fit. A 3T MoE never fits the Arc pair; mark November 4 on the watch list for the weights story, not the weights themselves.

DeepSeek shipped V4.1-Flash-1017 under MIT: a 552B MoE, 1M context, ~890 bytes of KV cache per token, lifting Terminal-Bench 4.0 from 31.2 to 42.3 and HLE from 36.8 to 42.6 over the previous Flash. Alongside it, DeepInfer — the offline version of DeepSeek's production inference engine — went open-source, built on vLLM for NVIDIA SM100 and Huawei Ascend 950.
Take: DeepSeek keeps doing the thing other labs won't: shipping the engine, not just the weights. The catch, as ever, is the hardware list — it reads like a data-center guest list, and Arc isn't on it.
↳ Callout — vLLM XPU spike (parked): SKIP for the Arc pair. DeepInfer targets SM100/Ascend only, so there's no Intel path to borrow — same wall that parked the vLLM spike. The transferable idea is the offline production-engine pattern, not the code; revisit only if a SYCL/XPU port appears.

🖥️ Computer hardware
The unified-memory laptop has arrived, and it makes the VRAM conversation very different.
RTX Spark laptops started shipping October 16 from eight makers (ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, MSI, Acer and more). The superchip fuses a 20-core Grace Arm CPU with a Blackwell GPU (6,144 CUDA cores; an 18-core / 5,120-core tier covers lower configs), up to 128 GB of LPDDR5X shared by CPU and GPU over NVLink-C2C, rated around 1 petaflop of FP4 compute. NVIDIA pitches models up to ~120B parameters with million-token contexts, running locally. Compact desktops follow in November.
Take: this is the first laptop that answers the question your rig answers with two cards and a prayer — "what if the memory just wasn't split?" The price says workstation, not impulse buy, and Windows on Arm says "check your toolchain before you dream." But the architecture is the benchmark now.
↳ Callout — Local LLM stacks / dual-A770 rig: COMPARE, don't buy. 128 GB unified beats your 32 GB pooled on paper — run the calculator below against your 96k setup before concluding anything. Re-check once independent llama.cpp-class benchmarks land; vendor "up to 120B" claims are not benchmarks.

Monitoring tools recognizing a platform is a prerequisite for benchmarking, not a benchmark. CPU-Z/HWMonitor support landing within a week of shipping means independent numbers — real thermals, real clocks, real memory behavior — are now collectible instead of extrapolated from launch decks.
Take: file this under "the grown-ups have arrived." When the first real Spark benchmarks drop, they'll come through these tools. That's when the comparison to your pair gets honest.

The Canadian launch config (October 9) pairs a Ryzen 9 9950X3D with an RTX 5080 (16 GB GDDR7), 64 GB DDR5 and a 2 TB PCIe 5.0 SSD — for C$8,999. The selling point is AniMe Holo: a 380 mm spinning side fan with 720 LEDs. A cheaper US config swaps in your exact CPU, the 9800X3D, with 32 GB RAM.
Take: eight thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine Canadian dollars for a fan that draws pictures. Your 9800X3D + dual A770 rig is, by this market's standards, an act of fiscal restraint. Respect.

The October 26 AI roundup leads with SpaceX's reported $40B GPU-related debt and a widening alarm over neocloud borrowing — the data-center buildout is increasingly financed on credit, with late-build penalties landing on developers. It's the macro mirror of the Spark story: everybody wants local compute, and everybody is borrowing to build the cloud version first.
Take: if the cloud gets more expensive to finance, local inference gets relatively cheaper every quarter. Your home lab is, accidentally, a hedge. Keep the receipts.

🧩 Software
Week 43 was a bumper crop — kernel, desktop, crypto, and a distro that wants to be your agent launcher.
The week's haul, per Linuxiac and 9to5Linux: Linux kernel 7.3 (new FailFS, scheduler changes), OBS Studio 33 (newest NVIDIA Broadcast SDKs, NVENC on AArch64), COSMIC 1.11, KDE Plasma 6.8.1, OpenSSL 4.1 (DTLS 1.3), KeePassXC 2.8 (Qt 6, Wayland), qBittorrent 5.3, DietPi 10.8, Tails 7.15.1 (emergency security update), and SparkyOS 2026.10, a new Arch-based portable distro.
Take: kernel 7.3 + OBS 33 is the combo that matters here — a scheduler/FailFS story for the box, and a streaming-tool upgrade for anything you ever point a camera at. The rest is a healthy ecosystem doing its weekly laps.
Sources: Linuxiac Week 43 wrap-up; 9to5Linux weekly roundup, October 25.
Shipped October 25: a Welcome Center page, "Control Your Computer with Natural Language," that tracks install status and logs for coding assistants — Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity and OpenCode for most users; Kimi Code, DeepSeek Harness, GLM via OpenCode, MiniMax Code and Qwen Code for mainland Simplified Chinese users. Installs ask for a third-party risk confirmation first, and provider accounts/keys stay separate from the OS. Also in the release: a new boot stack and a Secure Boot report that stops crying wolf.
Take: the distro itself is not the story — the launcher pattern is. An opt-in agent page with install status, logs and a risk confirmation is exactly how a multi-agent box should present itself. Somebody finally designed the front door.
↳ Callout — Hermes efficiency tool stack + Hermuse command center: STEAL THE PATTERN, skip the distro. An agent-launcher page with install status + expandable logs is a strong Hermuse pattern for the tools queue (RTK next). No install; file the UX idea, not the ISO.
Source: Linux Compatible, AnduinOS 2.0.5 release coverage.
New rolling ISOs October 25: Plasma 6.8.1, KDE Gear 26.08.2, Frameworks 6.31.0, Firefox 158.0.1, on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Plasma 6.8 itself — KDE's 30th-birthday release — retired new X11 sessions in favor of Wayland, with Union theming in beta and a built-in dwell clicker.
Take: the Wayland-only Rubicon is now crossed upstream, which is good news for an Omarchy box that already lives there. Neon remains the "KDE exactly as intended" fast lane, with the usual bleeding-edge trade-offs.
↳ Callout — Omarchy/Arch home PC: WATCH, no action. The Wayland direction matches your setup; nothing to install, just confirmation the ecosystem is walking the same way you already are.

Spooky week delivers: a huge release slate, a 91%-off bundle, and Sonic still printing units.
Out now/this week: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Final Fantasy Resonance (HD-2D, turn-based) lead the Oct 22–28 list; Emberville enters Early Access October 27 (Windows + Linux, Diablo-meets-Stardew); Minecraft Switch 2 Edition lands October 27; Phantom Blade Zero and The Wolf Among Us Remastered arrive October 29; Queen's Domain closes the week October 30. Remember the standing rule: whatever you play, it runs on the slot-1 A770 — never the compute card, never the iGPU.
Take: Phantom Blade Zero on the 29th is the one to watch — dark, moody, and exactly the kind of action game that makes the slot-1 rule earn its keep. Wolf Among Us Remastered is the comfort-food pick.

GigaBash, HELLCARD, Gordian Quest, Winion Virus, Monstrum and UNYIELDER in one checkout for $9.99 — 91% off standard Steam prices as of October 1 — through Tuesday, November 3 at 07:59 UTC. 10% of the purchase price (less taxes/fees/refunds) goes to Stand Up To Cancer. Two deckbuilders, a kaiju brawler, a boss gauntlet, a survival horror and a psychological horror visual novel: range, not a theme.
Take: $9.99 for Gordian Quest alone would be a deal; the other five are a rounding error. And the charity cut means the bundle is defensible even if you only play two of them. (You will play Gordian Quest.)

Sonic X Shadow Generations crossed 3 million units sold worldwide as of October 26 — a reminder that the "Sonic is back" era wasn't a blip. Meanwhile Genshin Impact Version 7.2, "Hour of Ruin," launches November 4, and reviews landed this weekend for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy (PC, Oct 26) and The Blood of Dawnwalker (PC, Oct 25).
Take: 3M for a Sonic compilation-plus is the quietest success story of the year. Generations earned it — it's the rare remaster-plus-sequel package where both halves are good.

Click a column header to sort. Stars are as reported in the October trending snapshots.
| Repository ↕ | Stars ↕ | What it is ↕ | Why it matters to you ↕ |
| morluto/rea | +9,392 in a week | Reverse-engineer-anything toolkit: point an agent at a binary, Electron app, .NET assembly or website and learn how it works, locally | Trending #1 — the REA story keeps compounding |
| Gathin23/cleanyourtv | 20,151★ | Debloat any Android TV over Wi-Fi: ADB backup, disable telemetry/sponsored rows, install a calm Apple-TV-style launcher, with a restore script | TV-software reference material, ready-made |
| deepseek-ai/DeepInfer | 18,428★ | DeepSeek's production inference engine, offline — vLLM-based, for SM100 + Ascend 950 | The engine behind V4.1-Flash, open at last |
| NVIDIA/OpenShell | 19.8K★ | Safe, private Rust runtime for autonomous AI agents — sandbox isolation for the agent stack | Agent-infrastructure layer, crystallizing fast |
| heygen-com/hyperframes | Trending again | Write HTML, render video — built for agents | Still watch-only; trending doesn't change the verdict |
↳ Callouts:
• morluto/rea → REA reverse-engineering toolkit: VALIDATES the pick — the official plugin (6.7.0) you already chose is now the week's #1 trending repo. No new action; the only thing still owed is your answers to the 5 open install questions.
• Gathin23/cleanyourtv → Riley Brown pick #1 (vibecode TV software): STUDY IT as reference. Its ADB backup → disable → launcher → restore pattern is exactly the safe shape for a TV project. Still gated on your TV's make/model + OS — don't run it blind.
• deepseek-ai/DeepInfer → vLLM XPU spike (parked): SKIP for Arc, same reason as the AI item above — no Intel backend. Watch the pattern, not the repo.
• NVIDIA/OpenShell → Hermes harness: WATCH as a sandbox-layer candidate when the tools queue gets there; it belongs to the agent-infrastructure layer that's crystallizing this month (Cloudflare's security-audit-skill at 46K★ and claude-mem at 103K★ are the same story).
• heygen-com/hyperframes → watch list: WATCH stands. Trending again is not an install signal — the verdict from October 25 (watch, don't install) is unchanged.

💒 The Wedding Countdown
♥ 397 days to go ♥
Saturday, November 27, 2027 — the lodge, with the whole weekend, Friday November 26 through Sunday November 28.
Today's planning note: the food-cart crown still belongs to Rip City Grill — $14/person, $1,000 minimum plus 18% gratuity. No vendor has been contacted or booked yet, and that's fine: 397 days out is exactly the season for holding the big pieces and tasting nothing in a hurry.
Late-November light, hills above the lodge, and a room full of your people. The countdown is doing its job; the rest can wait for its turn.
